Scary Spider Cookies – Easy Halloween Treats the Kids Will Love!

Hey hey… spooky season is here! 👻

Here in South Africa, we don’t go too big on Halloween, but I still love doing something special for the kids. From a fun breakfast to a themed school lunch — and of course, ending the day with a “scary” dinner — it’s always such a laugh!

This year’s little treat (no tricks, I promise!) is Scary Spider Cookies — easy to make, super cute, and absolutely delicious.

There are so many amazing homemade Halloween treat ideas out there, but this one is simple, fun, and a guaranteed hit with the kids.

What do you need to make Scary spider cookies

What You’ll Need

  • 1 batch of peanut butter cookie dough — I love this ultimate peanut butter cookie recipe from Living Delish. It’s a family favorite and perfect for Christmas too!
  • A packet of Whispers (or any chocolate ball sweets)
  • Chocolate chips (about half a packet – milk & white)
  • Hundreds and thousands (blue ones for the eyes!)

Instructions

Prepare the cookies:
Make your peanut butter cookie dough as per the recipe — but skip the fork marks! Instead, roll walnut-sized dough balls and place them on a greased baking tray.

Use the back of a spoon to press a slight cavity in each cookie. Leave space between cookies, as they rise a bit.
Pro tip: Chill the dough balls in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking. It helps them hold their shape.

Bake and cool:
Once baked, move your cookies to a cooling rack and let them cool completely before decorating.

Make the chocolate base:
Melt the milk chocolate (microwave works fine — just go slow and stir in between).
Add a small drop into each cookie cavity and place a chocolate ball on top. Let it set.

Add the legs:
Fill a piping bag with the remaining melted milk chocolate and pipe out eight little legs for each spider. Allow to set.

Make the eyes:
Melt the white chocolate and pipe two small dots on each spider for eyes. While still wet, place a tiny blue hundred-and-thousand ball in the center of each dot.

Set and store:
Let your creepy-cute spiders set completely, then store them in an airtight container.

And there you have it — your Scary Spider Cookies!
They’re spooky, sweet, and totally kid-approved. The perfect treat to add a little Halloween fun to your home — even if we don’t go all-out with costumes and cobwebs!

Enjoy, and have a spooktacular baking day!
