Oat and cacao protein balls

Cutting down on sugar or for that matter following a limited diet, can leave you craving for something sweet to snack on. The safest bet is always to make your own treats. This way you know exactly what goes in it, and it also gives you the opportunity to add a little more nutrients as you like. So this oat and cacao protein balls will just hit all the right spots! They are packed with wholesome ingredients like chia and flax seeds. Plus they make a perfect snack when you just need that extra little something.

This recipe is pretty versatile. You can play around with the ingredients and create your own personal favourite. The are super fast to make and last in the fridge for around one week. That’s if you don’t eat it all in one day 😉

Oat and cacao protein balls

Ingredients

2 Cups rolled oats
1/4 cup flax seeds
1/2 cup peanut butter (No salt or sugar added)
1/2 cup cashews or pecans, raw
15 ml hemp seeds, hearts
2 tablespoons maca
2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons protein powder
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
8 medjool dates, pitted
2-4 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

Using a food processor, add the oats, cashews/pecan nuts and flax seeds. Process until a coarse meal.
Add all the other ingredients except the dates, maple syrup and peanut butter. Pulse until well mixed.
Now add the last 3 ingredients and blend well until well combined. It should form a dough like ball.
If it is too stiff, add in more maple syrup or dates. If your mixture is to runny add in more oatmeal.

I find using a food processor to make these balls works amazing and not to mention super fast. It mixes the ingredients in a matter of seconds. This along with my mixer are probably my two most used kitchen appliances.
