Valentine’s day Cupcakes

table ready and set for valentine's day cupcakes

Aaaaa…. Valentine’s day… What a lovely day. 🥰 So much love going around. Hate it or love it, but I am a true sucker for Valentine’s day. I love going out of my way, making little treats for the kids lunch boxes, sprinkling hearts everywhere…. And of coarse what better way to round of a great day, with some lovely valentine’s day cupcakes.

Heart shapes

I love making Vanilla cupcake. They make playing around with icing flavors fun. Different flavors makes the cupcakes exciting. I decided to go with a light strawberry icing for some of the cupcakes, others I made with a cherry flavor and some with a hint of coconut flavor icing. But all of them complemented the vanilla cupcakes.

I love using my trustworthy vanilla cake recipe. This recipe works great for cupcakes as well. http://www.livingdelish.com/vanilla-sponge-cake/ It makes around 24 cupcakes. A perfect amount for all the lovely flavors out there.

Icing these babies are actually easy. A large batch of plain icing. Split it into three, each batch flavored with own flavor and color. Read this basic steps for making a great butter icing, I promise it will come in handy. http://www.livingdelish.com/5-great-icing-types-to-try-today/

Colour hearts

Buttercream swirls on top of a cupcake with 4 different colour hearts on.

For these cupcakes, I rolled out 4 different colors of fondant. Using my smallest heart cutter, I cut out one heart of each color.

First pipe your buttercream icing swirling it on top of your cupcake. Now carefully place one of each color heart on top of your cupcake.

Rice paper print outs

For these Valentine’s day cupcakes I decided to add a beautiful printed picture. I print these pictures using a rice paper printer.
If you are new to rice paper and rice paper printouts you should check it out. It’s really neat. You get to print any picture or photo you want on a edible paper. These prints are hundred percent edible.

Simple pink Heart

These little cupcakes are easy to make, but they look great. Roll out a light pink fondant, using a heart cutter, cut hearts out and set aside. In the meantime pipe swirls of icing on top of each cupcake. Once done add a little heart on top of each cupcake. Round the cupcake off with sprinkling some edible glitter on top.

I hope that you also enjoyed your Valentine’s day. If you made something special or even received something special. Please share.
