Show stopping Oreo Cake

A show stopping double tier oreo cake. Filled and topped with delicious oreos.

What better way to celebrate a special occasion by “wow- ing” your friends and family with a Show stopping oreo cake!

Adults and kids alike just love oreos. I’m one of those people who just can’t get enough of this little cookie. I always make sure that I have a box or two on hand. Especially when I get the urge to bake something. Keep in mind, I also have to hide these boxes away from the rest of the family (and sometimes I feel I need to hide them from myself as well… 😂 )

So in any case you could just imagine my excitement when I got a request to make an oreo birthday cake. I made the inside of this cake vanilla flavour, using my trust worthy recipe, Please see this link for the recipe https://livingdelish.com/vanilla-sponge-cake/
and used my special oreo frosting to boost the flavours in this cake.

The end result was just amazing, or must I say it was a Show stopping oreo cake!!

Here’s what you will need to copy this cake.

2 layers X 10-inch Vanilla sponge cakes
2 layers X 8-inch Vanilla sponge cake
1 Batch Chocolate Ganache
1 Batch Oreo Frosting
+/- 20 Oreo cookies.

Where to start?

Start by preparing your chocolate Ganache as this need some time to cool off before you can use it. If you are looking for a recipe you can check this one out. https://livingdelish.com/5-great-icing-types-to-try-today/

Next you will need to prepare your cakes and leveling them. By leveling them you will ensure that your cake is nicely shaped and that each layer is flat on top. You can easily level your cakes by using a leveling tool. This tool allows you to cut the dome shape off the top of your cake with little effort.

Once they are done you can mix your Oreo frosting. Follow this link to get this great and easy to make recipe. https://livingdelish.com/oreo-frosting/
This icing mixes quick and stores well. You can always prepare the icing and the ganache a day in advance to save some time.

Now for the show stopping oreo cake to take the stage…

Spread some icing in between the layers of your cakes. I added some roughly chopped oreos over the icing.
Once this is done you can start to ice your cakes, first the bottom tier and on a seperate cake board (the same size as your top tier) the top tier. Carefully place your top tier in the centre of the bottom one. Use your spatula smooth out the icing to ensure a nice and even finish. If your oreos are finely crushed they should not cause to much havoc when you are trying to even out your icing.
Refrigerate the cake for 2 -3 hours. Make sure your cake is cold.

Once your cake comes out of the fridge you can now start to drizzle your ganache. Begin with the bottom layer, dripping the ganache all around the cake. Then move on to the top layer. First do the drips around the cake then fill the center of the cake with just enough ganache to cover the icing.
When done, let the cake sit for about 30 minutes. This will just be enough time for the ganache to set a bit.
TIP: It’s important that your cake is cold when you start with your ganache. This will prevent your ganache drips from just running off the cake and make lines instead of drips marks.
Use some icing to pipe on top of the cake so that you can place your oreos standing up into the icing.

This cake is definitely an Oreo lover’s dream…. And definitely a show stopper!
Go ahead and surprise your family and friends with this cake.
