Classic Waffles

A stack of freshly baked waffles on a white plate with some icing sugar sprinkled over them.

Waffles are such a classic breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner & dessert treat. Everyone has their own way of dressing these little darlings up. My personal favourite is a simple syrup & cream topping…. In other words Mmmm…

I use to make plenty of these, but my waffle iron didn’t agree with me anymore. And so I started to make them less and less. Till my husband had a recent overseas trip. He came back with the BEST waffle maker ever!!
😍 A deep pocket rotating waffle maker. OH My…. What a pleasure to make waffles again.

So now we started making waffles by the tons over weekends as a treat. I try to keep mine healthy. (P.s. the sugar in the below recipe can be replaced with xylitol – exactly the same ratio, if you wondering why you would like to cut out some sugar, check this post out : https://livingdelish.com/the-sugar-free-buzz-how-do-you-quit-sugar/)
These waffles also freezes very well. Make sure that they are wrapped & sealed properly. They will last in the freezer for up to 3 months.

This recipe make about 8 – 10 waffles. Depending on the size of your waffle maker.

Ingredients

3 cups flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup sugar
4 tablespoons of melted butter
2 eggs
500 ml Buttermilk

How to make these classic waffles

Mix all the ingredients together using a electric mixer or hand mixer, Until smooth and no lumps are visible.

Spray your waffle maker when it is hot and ready to use. Now, fill your waffle maker according to your waffle makers instructions. (My waffle maker takes about a 1/3 cup. It’s a very trial and error thing. You will have to play around with the amount of mixture that you use for one waffle) Scoop the mixture out in the middle of the Waffle maker. You can spread out the batter slightly using a rubber spatula if you want to. Close the waffle maker and bake until ready. Most waffle makers will have a very handy little light that will indicate when the waffle is ready.
