Apple fritters

Apple fritters (or fried apple rings) are a simple, quick and easy treat enjoyed by the whole family. It can easily be made with ingredients already in your house.

I like this recipe as it is sugar free. The sweetness comes from the apples that you use along with the cinnamon in the recipe. Besides, these little apple fritters are a great hit with my kids and my hubby. But feel free to add 60 ml of xylitol if you really prefer something sweeter. This is a great treat if you are following a sugar free lifestyle. Check out my post on sugar free plans ideas for some tips https://livingdelish.com/the-sugar-free-buzz-how-do-you-quit-sugar/

Ingredients

1 cup of self-raising flour
1 egg
250 ml milk
5ml Vanilla essences
5ml Cinnamon, ground
pinch of salt
+/- 5 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
Butter for frying
60 ml Xylitol (Optional)

Method

Prepare your apples by peeling and coring them. Cut them in 1 cm slices.
Mix all the ingredients, except the apples until smooth and no lumps are visible.

Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Melt some butter in the frying pan.

Once the butter is hot, dip one apple slice at a time into the batter. Make sure that your apple slice is nicely covered. Use a fork to help you lift the apple ring out of the batter and into the frying pan. Continue until your frying pan is full.

As soon as the bottom of the apple fritter appears golden brown, turn them around to cook the otherside.

Take the cooked ones out off the pan and let it drain on some kitchen towels.

Serve them nice and hot.
You can also serve them along with some freshly whipped cream. ENJOY!!

*Tip : While you peeled, cored & cut your apples, place them in a bowl filled with water together with some lemon juice. This will keep your apples from turning brown while you are still busy preparing them. When you are ready to fry them, simply take them out, dry and then dunk into your batter.
