Naan Bread

Freshly baked Naan bread brushed with melted butter

Who does not love a good naan bread? I use to be one of those people who would make a stop at our local Indian restaurant to buy some fresh naan bread when ever I make a curry. This is a firm favorite with our family. Although I never seem to buy enough of these breads….

Hey and they go very good with soup too. Instead of dunking your normal slice of bread, try this bread for a change. If you are looking for some dinner inspiration try this Cauliflower soup. It might not sound like much, but if my kids requests this soup then you must know its good. http://www.livingdelish.com/cauliflower-soup/

So I set out to find a good recipe and tried every one I could find. Eventually I spoke to an Indian friend who shared a few inside trade secrets. I use to think that these little breads takes forever to prepare, raise and bake. Yeah, right… They are actually super easy to make, and took me a whole 20 minutes to mix, bake and eat…. (Just joking. I just had one to taste 😁 But I’m sure given the chance, I probably would finish them in a few minutes)

This bread is simply just great…. Let me know what you think.

Naan Bread

Enough to make 8 breads

Ingredients

NAAN BREAD
1 ¾ Cup of Self-raising flour
1 Cup plain yogurt

MELTED BUTTER TOPPING
¼ Cup Melted butter
1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
1 teaspoon of parsley

Directions

If you have a stand mixer, use your dough hook and mix together the self-raising flour and the plain yogurt. Otherwise use your hands and mix the dough then knead until combined. As you mix the dough, it will come together into a ball and the side of the mixing bowl should have no dough sticking to it. Set aside.

In a microwavable bowl, melt the butter. Once melted add the garlic and parsley and mix well. You will use this butter to brush over your cooked breads.

Place your dough on a floured surface, and divide your ball of dough into 8 pieces. On a floured surface roll out one piece of dough into an oval shape.
(I do two oval shapes at a time)

Heat a large flat pan and lightly oil with some olive oil. Once the pan is hot, place the oval shaped dough onto the pan. After a minute or so you will see the naan bread starting to make air bubbles. You can now turn them around to bake the other side.

Take them off and brush the melted butter over the top side of the bread while it is still hot. You only need to brush one side of the bread. Continue baking the rest of the breads and brushing it with butter as they come off the hot pan.

Enjoy them while they are still nice and hot with a good curry or ever a delicious soup!!
