Braided Pizza

In the Mood for something different? This braided pizza is just amazing. You can play around with the fillings and ingredients to suit your taste. This makes a quick and easy meal that is filling and so tasty!!

Making this Braided Pizza is so easy. We usually make this with left over pizza dough. But this can be made with store-bought bread dough. Our little supermarket sells already made dough from their bakery, this works great. Once you have the dough the rest is pretty simple. Roll the dough into a rectangular, add filling and cheese down the center, then cut strips into the dough to be able to braid it over the filling. Brush with melted butter and bake until golden.
I told you it’s really easy. 😉

Other filling ideas:

Everyone has their own favorite combinations. And the fun part is that you can play around with the filling as you like. Here are some ideas for fillings. Just remember to pre-cook the meats, where applicable, before adding them to your braided pizza.

Meats: Bacon, ham, ground beef, diced chicken, pepperoni, chorizo.
Cheeses: Mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, or a mixture between these cheeses.
Vegetables: Mushrooms, green Peppers, bell peppers, onions, olives, tomatoes, etc..
Sauce: Pizza Sauce, marinara Sauce

For an extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese over the top of the braid before baking.

Braided Pizza

Ingredients

Pizza dough, refrigerated (we used around 500-600g for this braided pizza)
1/4 to 1/2 Cup Pizza sauce
1 Teaspoon Garlic, Crushed
1-2 Table spoons of Butter melted

Filling – Adjust ingredients and quantities to your liking
1/4 Cup Green pepper, diced
1/2 Cup mushrooms, sliced
1/4 Cup Bacon, diced and cooked
1/4 Cup Ham, diced and cooked
1/2 Onion, diced
2 Cups Mozzarella cheese
1-2 Teaspoon Oregano spice

Directions

Preheat the oven to 180ËšC. Grease a large pan and set aside.

On a floured surface roll the cold pizza dough to a thickness of around 1cm into a large rectangular. Trim the sides if necessary.

Spread the pizza sauce in a wide strip lengthwise down the center of the dough. Leaving the sides free from sauce.
Then spread the garlic evenly over the pizza sauce. Now add the toppings, cheese and spice.

Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter and cut the dough into strips on both sides of the topping.
Be careful not to cut the dough to close to the center or the filling will spill out while it bakes.

Fold one strip over the toppings and then fold one strip from the opposite side over the first strip. Repeat to form a braid, slightly overlapping the ends and make sure to tuck the ends in.

Gently lift from the table and place into the prepared pan.

Brush the braid with melted butter. Feel free to sprinkle the top with some extra oregano spice.

Bake for 20-30 min or until the crust is golden brown.

Cut into slices and serve warm.

Enjoy!
