Scary Spider Cookies

Hey Hey… Scary season is here!!!
Here in South Africa we are not to big on Halloween, but I do like to do something special for the kids. From breakfast to school lunch and to end it all, a nice scary dinner!!! 😆 So as a nice little treat for them this year (No tricks, I promise they are super easy to make!) I decided to go with this Scary spider cookies.

Scary Spider cookies

There are so many good ideas when it comes to homemade Halloween treats. The most difficult thing is to decide which one you would like to make.

These cookies are peanut butter cookies and are well complemented with the chocolate on top. They look good and they are really easy to make.

What do you need to make Scary spider cookies

One batch of Peanut butter batter. If you are looking for a good recipe try this one. https://www.livingdelish.com/the-ultimate-peanut-butter-cookie/
This is my favorite peanut butter cookie recipe. They are always a hit and a firm favorite for the Christmas baking tray.

A packet of Whispers or similar chocolate ball sweets
Chocolate chips (Half a packet) – Milk & white chocolate
Hundred and thousands (Blue colored ones)

Instructions

Follow the above recipe for Peanut butter cookies. The only trick here is not to use a fork to press the cookies flat. Rather roll walnut size balls and place them on your well greased baking tray. Use the back of a spoon and press a slight cavity in each cookie before baking. Also make sure to leave enough space between the cookies, as they rise quite a bit. If you want but this step is helpful – Place your cookie dough balls in the fridge first. This will help the cookies not to spread as quickly as normal. Keep them in the fridge for about 30 minutes before you bake them.

Once your cookies are baked. Place them on a cooling rack and allow them to cool before you start to decorate them.

Melt your milk chocolate first. I use the microwave for this. Just make sure that you do not overheat the chocolate as it can burn easy in the microwave. Also remember to stir in between the heating process. This will help the chocolate to melt evenly.

Now add a small drop of chocolate to each cavity.
Add a chocolate ball on top of each bit of chocolate. Set this aside an allow to set. Now use a piping bag and fill it with the remainder of your melted milk chocolate. Pipe “legs” next to each ball and allow the chocolate to set.

Plate of decorated cookies, ready to trick and treat your little guests.

Now, melt the white chocolate. You really only need a little bit, as this will be for the scary spider eyes. Use a piping bag and pipe a very small amount on top of each ball, making two eyes. While the chocolate is still wet add one hundred and thousand ball to each to create an eye.

Allow your little scary yet very adorable spiders to set. Once the chocolate is hard you can store your cookies in an airtight container.

Enjoy!!
